Drugs including ‘Ice’ and Cannabis Detected by ICA Officers at Woodlands Checkpoint
Two Malaysian nationals arrested at Woodlands Checkpoint for smuggling over 2kg of cannabis and 261g of Ice. Seized drugs valued above $71,000 carry mandatory death penalty under Singapore law.

On 4 May 2026, Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers detected a Malaysia-registered car attempting to enter Singapore at Woodlands Checkpoint. The vehicle was referred for enhanced checks based on intelligence from ICA's Integrated Targeting Centre.
During the inspection, officers discovered a backpack hidden in the boot of the car belonging to two occupants: a 29-year-old Malaysian woman and a 26-year-old Malaysian man. Inside the backpack, concealed by a pair of jeans, were a plastic bag and two black bundles containing controlled drugs.
Forensic analysis revealed the plastic bag contained approximately 261g of 'Ice' (methamphetamine), while the black bundles held about 2,261g of cannabis. The seized drugs have an estimated street value exceeding $71,000 and are sufficient to supply approximately 470 abusers for a week.
The suspects were arrested immediately upon detection. The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) was alerted and conducted further checks on the scene.
Under Section 7 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973, individuals found guilty of importing or exporting more than 250g of methamphetamine or more than 500g of cannabis face the mandatory death penalty. Investigations into this case are ongoing.
ICA and CNB continue to collaborate closely to prevent drug smuggling across Singapore's borders. Security checks at checkpoints remain a priority to intercept attempts to bring in drugs, undesirable persons, weapons, explosives, and other contraband.
