Recall of American Fig (450g) due to presence of an undeclared allergen, sulphur dioxide
SFA recalls American Fig (450g) sold by Wing Sang Wholesale Ltd due to undeclared sulphur dioxide allergen. Sulphite-sensitive consumers should avoid this product immediately and contact retailers for refunds.

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has issued a recall for American Fig (450g) sold under the brand Wing Sang Wholesale Ltd. The product contains sulphur dioxide, an undeclared allergen that was not listed on the packaging label.
Sulphur dioxide is commonly used as a food additive and is typically tested for as sulphur dioxide (a gaseous substance). While sulphite does not pose a general food safety issue to most consumers, it can cause allergic reactions in individuals who are sensitive or intolerant to it. Symptoms may include hives, itchiness, stomach-ache, diarrhoea, and vomiting.
Under Singapore’s Food Regulations, all ingredients that could cause hypersensitivity must be declared on prepacked food labels to protect consumers with allergies. All ingredients should also be specified in descending order of their proportions by weight.
The SFA has directed the local importer, Regal Commerce Pte Ltd, to recall the implicated products immediately. The recall is currently ongoing.
Consumers who have purchased the affected product and are intolerant of or allergic to sulphites should not consume it. Those who have already consumed the product and have concerns about their health should seek medical advice. For enquiries, consumers may contact their point of purchase.
